We Are Fundraising to Create a World Where Girls Are Not for Sale

We are asking a few of our key partners to rally their friends, family, and networks to support our work. By becoming a fundraiser for GEMS, you will help more young girls and women who have experienced the pain of commercial sexual exploitation (CSE), and you'll help your friends feel good about doing good.

Starting a fundraiser is easy to do, and it's fun. We'll even give you all the tools you need to make a difference. Ways to raise:

• Honor a loved one: Create a fundraiser in honor or memory of a loved one.
• Birthday Fundraisers & Special Occasions: Create a "friend-raiser" to celebrate your special day in lieu of gifts.
• Facebook Friend-raising: Join GEMS on Facebook to raise funds.
• A-thons. Consider activities that your network of friends can enjoy by starting an "a-thon". Read-a-thons are a great way to involve all ages. Run/walk/cycle/swim-a-thons can help promote healthy habits. This method can also create friendly competition between each friend-raiser to encourage reading more books, walking or biking a 1 or 5k, or swimming more laps. Get active!
• Movie Night: Grab some popcorn and gather your friends. Screen our Very Young Girls documentary to help spread the GEMS story and raise money at the same time. Ask participants to give a donation instead of an entry fee.
• Virtual Movie night is a great way to spend time with your friends. But if you’re practicing social distancing or just live too far away from your friends to come together for a movie, there’s no reason to put your movie night on hold. Hosting a virtual movie night is a great way to enjoy a movie with your friends without leaving the comfort of your home. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Disney+ offer streaming options that will allow you to watch a movie together with your friends.
  • KOSMI: Instead of using a streaming service to view your movie, you can also play a movie you already own with the help of Kosmi. This free app allows you to screen video by sharing your screen. That means you can stream a movie you already own or movies from streaming sites, whether or not everyone in the party has access to that platform.
• Scavenger Hunt: Create a scavenger hunt where your friend-raisers could walk, bike, hike or drive to pre-assigned locations in your area and answer questions at each site. At each location, have questions related to a theme of your choice. Form teams and have each member donate to play.
• Play Games and Fundraise: Play your favorite games while raising critical funds. You can help provide support to young girls and women in crisis with your charity stream.

GEMS partners directly with youth ages 12-29 to improve their educational outcomes and identify opportunities for growth and stability. With your help, we can ensure that GEMS will continue to provide the programs and services that will ensure a pathway for young girls and women to navigate their way out of CSE permanently.
